Our hearts have felt the heaviness of losing a beloved friend and colleague this week at Father Allouez Catholic School, but the glow of her ways will stay with us always! Our beloved librarian, Mary Donarski, returned to her heavenly home on April 17. While we – and especially her family – will miss her dearly, we can only imagine the fun and rewards she will enjoy from above. 🌟🙏
For six decades, Mary Donarski did so much for St. Matthew Catholic Community – and we at Father Allouez Catholic School are especially grateful that for 56 of THOSE YEARS, she also devoted herself to our School Library! 📚🌎📖
Mary was a proud graduate of St. Matthew School Class of 1951, the mother of four alums, and a helping presence here throughout her life. She volunteered at the parish on many fronts, from chairing picnics to serving on the parish council. When resources were tight for the school, she helped launch “Matthew’s Messenger,” relentlessly tracking down addresses for a newsletter that reached thousands of Alumni around the country. She always wanted to spread the good news about our school!
But Mary’s greatest legacy was planting the seeds of a love for reading in three generations of St. Matt’s/FACS students. As our librarian, she truly was every student’s tour guide for knowledge! The impact of her work will be felt throughout their lives. Her tireless dedication and spunky, fun presence have also been a great gift to countless colleagues and a legion of volunteers.
When Mary retired last May, we named her wonderful workspace the Mary Donarski Library! But she didn’t stay away for long. Mary helped us every week this year, tutoring readers and assisting at School Masses.
We owe a deep debt of gratitude to Mary’s husband, Dave, and her remarkable family for sharing Mary with us all these years! Our special prayers and affection remain for all of the Donarski Family.
