Father Allouez Catholic School

Towards the end of the school year, our Father Allouez Catholic School 3rd Graders spent time working diligently in the School Garden. They uncovered all the garden beds to see what plants survived and what plants needed to be replaced. They also worked together to fix some garden beds that were falling apart.

The students grew potatoes, green beans, lettuce, tomatoes, asparagus, corn, peppers, and basil in the classroom. Once our plants were big enough and the weather was beyond cold temperatures, we planted them outside.

God's creatures enjoyed some of the newly planted plants, so we went to the store and purchased more plants. We planted two different varieties of blueberry plants, but the deer enjoyed eating the plants. All part of gardening lessons!

As the strawberries are growing, please do not pick any of the white flowers. The white flowers will turn into juicy berries to eat.

The asparagus will not be ready for picking this season. We are letting the asparagus grow wild, so it will get established for the next harvesting season.

Not only did we plant fruits and vegetables, the students also planted some of their sin smoothie wildflowers from Lent. These flowers will be in the cross of flowers in the middle of the garden.

Thank you, Mrs. Ashley VandenBush for tending our garden throughout the summer months!

Our garden could use a few more square tomato cages. As our garden is growing over the summer, we pray that Mrs. Donarski's spirit will keep the deer, birds, rabbits, and turkeys out of the garden!
