Each May, the Church trains our eyes on Mary, the Blessed Mother of Jesus. The love of Mary is a love that gives itself, that protects, and that keeps calling people back to God. It points us to a steady love.
At Father Allouez Catholic School, we have especially looked to Mary to guide us this year in everyday life. Our school year’s theme has been “To Jesus, Through Mary”. In May, we have taken special time to go to the Blessed Mother, and to honor her! Praying the Rosary together has been one way. 💙🙏
Another has been through the Crowning of Mary – see the photo of some of our 8th Grade Girls after crowning Mary recently.
And this past week, our 3rd- and 4th-Graders visited the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion. How incredibly blessed we are to live near the first and only approved Marian apparition site in the U.S.
Dating back to 1859, the faithful have gathered on these sacred grounds to honor Jesus and invoke the intercession of his Blessed Mother. The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion is an internationally recognized holy site where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared. It is open 365 days a year, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. All are welcome to experience this humble and peaceful place of prayer and refuge.
If you have visited the Shrine, you know how special it is. For some, it is a wonderfully convenient and treasured prayer spot. If you have not visited, make time to! Learn the story of Adele Brice, who is now being considered for sainthood. Lambert Brise, Adele’s father, started lighting votive candles at the Shrine after building the first wooden chapel near the spot of the apparition site. This practice continues today for all who seek the intercession of the Virgin Mary.
At the Shrine, our students visited the Apparition Chapel and the Oratory, as well as Adele’s Grave, the St. John Paul II Grotto, the Rosary Walk (which includes a Belgian American ‘roadside chapel’ from long ago), and the Stations of the Cross path.
The month of MAY has given us some very special opportunities indeed to "go to Jesus through Mary"! ✝️🙏🕊️💙
